Casting Bones

Space Shuttle Atlantis in its final preparations before it will become part of a public display at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. 

The three-page gallery includes images of Atlantis’ glass-cockpit, powered up for the last time. There’s also images of the gantries built up around the ship and the removal of her engines, which will be reused along with the Canadarm on future space missions. 

A technical embalming process, Atlantis is seeing its last days as a ship. It’s now a museum piece.
